Financial penalties for breaching COVID laws

There are significant financial penalties for failing to comply with a lawful requirement or direction of an emergency management worker – this includes police officers and other officials in the COVID-19 space. Lawful requirements and directions include stay at home, quarantine and isolation conditions or orders. There are also significant financial penalties for knowingly providing false or misleading information to an emergency management worker. This includes providing false details on G2G applications, whether as a resident returning to Tasmania or an interstate traveller seeking to enter Tasmania.

The infringement notice penalty for these offences is currently 9 penalty units, over $1500.
