Welcome to the Child Support Service
Hobart Community Legal Service's Child Support Service assists custodial (carer) parents seeking advice on all aspects of Child Support. This service can provide telephone advice within Southern Tasmania or a face-to-face service from our Hobart Office.
This Service can help you:
- obtain a Court Order for child maintenance or an increase in child maintenance
- register Orders or Agreements with the Agency for collection
- prove paternity
- apply for an administrative assessment of Child Support to be change by the Child Support Agency
- make an application to Court seeking an Order that the administrative assessment should not apply in your case.

| During 1999, the Legal Aid Commission of Tasmania introduced similar services to carer parents in North and North-western Tasmania, and to non-carer (liable or payer) parents statewide.
If you would like to find out how to lodge claims of maintenance for dependent children, then go to our Child Support Process Explained page. This is an easy-to-follow step-by-step pathway through the different options open to you, depending upon your own circumstances. At the end of that sequence you can also find out about our free booklet: The Child Support Scheme: A guide for parents and link to the home page for the Commonwealth Government Child Support Agency. This information will generally apply to carer parents throughout Australia, given that the legislation and administration of Child Support is national.
